CRL version 1.0
These pages contain information about version 1.0 of the C Region
Library (CRL), an all-software distributed shared memory system
intended for use on message-passing multicomputers and distributed
systems. CRL 1.0 can be compiled for use on the MIT Alewife Machine, Thinking Machine's CM-5, and networks
of Sun workstations (running SunOS
4.1.3) communicating with one another using TCP.
The TCP/UNIX implementation included in CRL 1.0 is not intended to be
a high-performance distributed shared memory implementation delivering
speedups similar to those obtained with the Alewife and the CM-5
implementations. It is primarily provided to allow development and
experimentation by those without access to a CM-5 and to display the
ease with which CRL may be ported.
